Dealing With B’acne

“B’acne” – any blackheads, acne, pimples on the back.

Back acne as the name suggests is usually found on the back & upper arms. It occurs as a result of clogged pores. Clogged pores develop when too much sebum is excreted via pores. “Sebum is an oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands in mammalian skin. It’s main purpose is to make the skin and hair waterproof and to protect them from drying out. An excess of sebum, however, can make the skin or hair oily, and it can begin to smell when broken down by bacteria outside the body.”  This leads to the formation of B’acne. Fighting B’acne can be extremely difficult due to the fact that the skin on this area is naturally thicker  which tends to make it more insusceptible to treatment. Other factors to be considered include : genetics, stress levels and hormones.

Some Common Back Acne Treatments Contain:

1. Benzoyl Peroxide which is commonly used in popular acne products and medicated body washes.

2. Alcohol and Acetone normally found in over the counter medications. Alcohol is an antimicrobial substance and may work to reduce acne causing bacteria while acetone removes excess oil from the skin. Commonly found in toners and astringents.

3. Antibiotics are usually prescribed by a dermatologist whether topical or oral depends on the cause of your acne. Most importantly decreasing the concentration of bacteria in and around the follicle.

For best results you should make an appointment with your dermatologist.

3 Tips For Avoiding Irritation

1. Try wearing breathable cotton clothing at all times.

2. If you do strenuous activities that involves a  lot of sweating, be sure to take a shower and reapply treatments to your back to prevent excessive moisture.

3.  Exfoliating the skin on your back at least once a week is highly recommended as this will remove the dead skin cells.
